Riversand Launches Global Pitch Drive 2026: Capital for Africa’s Next Generation of Category-Defining Companies
In a year when African startups raised approximately $1.36–1.44 billion in the first half of 2026, yet the number of companies receiving meaningful institutional capital fell sharply, Riversand Investment Company Limited is launching its most ambitious Global Pitch Drive to date.
While total funding remained relatively stable year-on-year, the number of startups securing rounds of $100,000 or more dropped significantly — from 252 deals in H1 2025 to roughly 146–190 in H1 2026. Early-stage cheques between $100k and $500k have been particularly scarce for three consecutive years. Capital is concentrating in fewer, larger, later-stage companies (notably in e-mobility and fintech), leaving a clear opportunity gap for exceptional founders building the next wave of African unicorns.
At the same time, the global venture market has become highly selective, with the vast majority of capital flowing into a small number of AI frontier companies. This creates a unique moment for disciplined, high-conviction investors who understand African markets deeply.
Why Riversand Is Opening the Doors Now
We believe the next decade of African innovation will be defined by companies that solve real problems at scale — in mobility, financial infrastructure, artificial intelligence applications, climate solutions, health, and enterprise software. The founders building these companies deserve partners who bring more than capital.
Riversand is actively seeking:
- Early-stage startups (Pre-seed to Series A) with clear product-market fit and exceptional founding teams
- Growth-stage companies ready for expansion capital
- Strategic collaborators and co-investors looking to partner on high-potential opportunities across Nigeria, Africa, and globally
Our typical investment range is ₦50 million to ₦500 million, and we focus on sectors where technology can create lasting competitive advantage.

What Makes This Drive Different
In an environment where many investors have retreated to later-stage deals or pure AI plays, Riversand remains committed to partnering early with exceptional operators. We combine local market intelligence with global standards of diligence, governance, and value creation.
Recent African success stories — from Moove’s $250 million Series C that took it to a $2.1 billion valuation in August 2026, to continued strength in fintech and climate tech — prove that world-class companies can be built from this continent. We intend to back the next generation of those companies.
